Control and safety

The local controller in the switchboard keeps the hall in a safe state even when it is connected to nothing.

The label on each layer states what it really is. Anything still in development is not presented here as finished.

  • Local control unit

A freely programmable controller to IEC 61131 in a switchboard that is our own product. Not a configurable regulator — tender specifications often rule those out explicitly.

  • Pressure and temperature

Pressure through fan speed and damper position. Temperature in cascade: hall temperature is the master loop, supply temperature the slave. This prevents overshoot given the thermal inertia of a hall.

  • Response to wind and snow

Increased pressure and fan speed along the pressure/wind curve — the curve only ever raises the pressure, it never lowers it. Above the second wind threshold the system cancels bookings and calls for evacuation. The wind forecast warns the manager in advance; evacuation is triggered only by a measured gust, without averaging and without waiting.

  • Air handling supervision

Airflow pressure switch, the FAN and LIMIT thermostats, flue pressure switch, damper positions, breaker and phase-monitoring relay status, drive status over Modbus and the full state of the diesel generator including fuel and running hours.

  • Hardware safety devices

Safety thermostat with manual reset, motor and surge protection, pressure relief damper and the return springs of the actuators. They need no software and work even when the controller is down.

  • Connection to the air handling panel

If the air handling has its own automation, AERDOMA does not replace it. The controller reads its panel over Modbus TCP — unit status, faults, temperatures — and changes only what the operator is allowed to: operating pressure, switching on and off, heating, forced snow mode. Heating is decided by the thermostat in the controller according to the temperature set in the application, and the burner fires only once the hall is up to pressure. Outside the heating season the hall ventilates when it is cooler outside than inside. A change that reduces protection does not go through in wind, in snow or during an alarm.

  • Schedules outside bookings

A weekly plan for lighting per court, heating (comfort and setback) and pressure (operating and reduced). Holidays and closed days are taken from the opening hours calendar. The controller runs the plan even without internet, and it never reduces protection — a booking, wind, snow or an alarm all override it.

  • Power quality from the electricity meter

The voltages of all three phases to neutral and between phases, and the mains frequency, if the electricity meter provides them. Undervoltage, overvoltage and a large frequency deviation are critical alarms naming the phase — they report, they do not shut the hall down. Energy also shows the minutes per year outside the standard frequency band.

  • Mains failure and the generator

A mains failure and a generator that has not started are two separate critical alarms, raised immediately. Lights and heating are switched off, and the air handling units are switched back on one after another once voltage returns, so that the generator can cope with their start-up. When the mains returns, the hall goes back to its previous state.

  • A setting waits until the hall is connected

A change of temperature, pressure or heating is saved even when the hall is not connected at that moment. The hall takes it over as soon as it connects, and until then the application shows what is waiting to be delivered and who entered it. Switching off the air handling is never deferred this way — that has to be decided by a person at that very moment.

  • Nightly controller backup

Every night the controller sends the cloud a backup of its settings, the hall certificate and the archive. When a backup does not arrive, our service team is alerted, not the hall manager. A failed controller is replaced with a new one and restored from the backup following a prepared procedure.

  • Basic control runs without the cloud

If the internet fails, the hall carries on to the last plan for 72 hours and protects itself. The cloud is for planning, not for survival.
